How Your Dubia
Roaches Will Arrive
Your feeder roaches will be carefully packed and secured in a brown paper bag inside the shipping box with packing material and when needed a heat pack.
We ensure they are well-fed and hydrated before shipment to reduce stress and keep them in top condition.
Why we ship sack lunch style?
We ship the roaches secured in a heavily stapled paper bag that has a section of egg crate and some roach chow inside for their trip.
Packing this way allows for…
✅ Better Airflow & Moisture Control – Prevents suffocation and condensation buildup.
✅ Less Stress on Roaches – Roaches thrive in dark, breathable spaces.
✅ Regulates temperature - Paper helps regulate temperature better, keeping roaches more stable and makes heating packs more effective when used.
✅ Secure & Escape-Proof – Plastic can crack or pop open, but our stapled bags keep roaches contained.
✅ Lower Shipping Costs – Lightweight and compact, saving you money.
✅ Eco-Friendly – the bag is biodegradable, reducing waste.
No Loose Roaches Upon Arrival! Your shipment is secure—when you open the box, you won’t have any unexpected escapees.
How to Transfer Your Roaches:
Remove the "sack lunch" from the shipping box.
Cut below the staples to open the bag.
Pour the roaches, egg crate, and food into your prepared container.
What to Do Immediately
Upon Arrival
✅ Have an Enclosure Ready– Transfer roaches to an empty plastic bin or glass tank (roaches can’t climb slick surfaces).
Make sure your enclosure also has a lid and preferably will be dark rather than clear to keep the roaches in a darker environment. Also ensure enclosure has good ventilation to keep humidity low to prevent mold, mildew and condensation.
Add additional egg crates for hiding after transfer to the enclosure.
✅ Unpack Carefully – Cut under the staples of the paper bag containing the roaches over a smooth-sided storage bin to prevent escapes when transferring to the enclosure or container you have prepared.
You can simply cut below the staples of your roach sack lunch paper bag and then pour the roaches and entire content of the bag into your new container. Be prepared there are some egg crates and a little food in there with them.
✅ Check for Movement – Roaches may be sluggish from shipping. Give them a few hours in a warm area (75–90°F) to recover.
✅ Provide Hydration – Offer fresh produce (carrots, apples, oranges) or hydration gel, but avoid standing water.
✅ Gut-Load Before Feeding – Feed high-quality grains, fruits and veggies 24–48 hours before offering them to your animals.
How to Care for Your Dubia Roaches at Home
1. Setting Up Their Container
Use a plastic tote or glass tank with smooth sides (roaches can’t climb slick surfaces) and a ventilated lid.
Provide egg crates or cardboard for hiding and climbing space.
Keep them warm (75–90°F) for optimal health—cooler temps slow their metabolism.
2. Feeding & Hydration
Feed fresh fruits and vegetables (carrots, apples, oranges, squash) along with high-quality grains (oats, whole wheat, dry roach chow).
Avoid moisture buildup—use hydration gel or fresh produce instead of water bowls to prevent drowning.
3. Keeping Them Healthy
Clean out uneaten food every 24–48 hours to prevent mold.
Keep humidity below 50% to prevent mites or mold growth.
Use proper ventilation to avoid stagnant air and odor buildup.
4. How Long Can I Keep Dubia Roaches?
With proper care, dubia roaches can live for months or longer, ensuring you always have a fresh supply of feeders.
Store them at room temperature (or cooler) if you want to slow their growth, or keep them warm to encourage growth before feeding.
Keep Humidity Under Control With These Tips
Increase Ventilation
Make sure the enclosure has ample airflow. If you’re using a plastic bin, cut out a section of the lid and replace it with fine mesh or screen. Good ventilation helps moisture escape rather than accumulate inside.
Avoid Excess Water Sources
Instead of open water bowls (which can spill and raise humidity), use water crystals or gel for roaches to drink. This keeps water contained and reduces excess moisture.
Use Dry Foods
Roaches do need fresh produce and some humidity, but overdoing it on wet fruits or veggies can increase humidity and mold. Provide smaller amounts of fresh foods more frequently rather than a large batch that sits and releases moisture.
Choose a Dry Substrate or Go Bare-Bottom
Many keepers simply use egg crates without a substrate. If you prefer substrate, make sure it’s something that doesn’t hold a lot of moisture (e.g., paper bedding or very dry coconut fiber).
Clean Regularly
Keep the enclosure free of leftover food and frass buildup. Old food breaks down and can elevate both humidity and the risk of mold or mites.
Reduce Ambient Humidity
If the room itself is quite humid (e.g., a basement or tropical climate), consider using a dehumidifier in the room or moving the enclosure to a location with lower ambient humidity.
Monitor with a Hygrometer
Sometimes humidity feels high but isn’t truly in the problematic range. Use a small, inexpensive digital hygrometer to track conditions so you know if adjustments are really needed.
These strategies will help maintain a healthy, relatively dry environment for your Dubia roaches, minimizing issues with mold or mites while still allowing the roaches to thrive.
